Eco-Friendly and Healthy Tips to Save Money

April 22, 2019 is Earth Day. It is a day to educate and raise awareness on what we can do to help keep our planet healthy. Consider these easy, cash-saving tips that also help preserve our planet:

1Cook from scratch. Cooking at home saves money and uses fewer resources than dining out or buying pre-made food. Eating food that’s been processed in distant industrial kitchens, wrapped up in plastic and cardboard packaging, and trucked to your local supermarket eats up a lot of energy. Also, homemade meals tend to taste better too!

2. Eat less meat. Reducing red meat intake is not only beneficial for heart health but also the environment. Meat production results in more carbon emissions than any other protein. This doesn’t mean you have to go vegetarian but learning to cook a few more vegetarian meals can save you money, add variety to your palate, and give the planet a big helping hand.

3. Opt for reusable water bottles (plates and utensils). It takes three times the amount of water in a water bottle just to produce one plastic water bottle. Also, many times, plastic water bottles are not recycled and end up in oceans, streams, rivers, and lakes which therefore affects the health of our sea animals.

4. Make your own coffee. Depending on what kind of drink you purchase, you could save anywhere from $10-$30 per month. It also benefits the planet by reducing the number of plastic coffee cups and lids that are discarded into landfills each day.
