The Kokomo Howard Wellness Center, provides a convenient, no cost option for acute, preventive, and wellness focused primary care services for all City and County employees and their families enrolled in your employer’s respective health plan. Healthcare coordination can help you get healthy and stay healthy in all aspects of your life. The services provided can be shared with your personal primary care physician.

Meet our team

Ashley Johnston, DNP, FNP-C
Ashley received her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in nursing from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health from Brock University. Ashley works as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the wellness center. She has also worked with transplant patients in the hospital as well as urgent care and family practice. She enjoys developing individualized plans to help patients achieve their health goals. In her free time, she loves crafting and spending time outdoors with her three children.

Jennifer Henke, RN
Jennifer Henke was born and raised in the St. Louis area. A United States Navy Veteran that found her passion for nursing as hospital corpsman during her four years of active duty. She studied nursing at Ivy Tech and has been a registered nurse for over 11 years. She has one adult son and daughter-in-law. In her downtime Jennifer enjoys shopping, traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Sherisa Johnson, LPN
Sherisa Johnson was born and raised in Kokomo, IN. She received her LPN from Ivy Tech in Kokomo in 1995. Her nursing experience has been in long term care until she decided to take a try at primary care and absolutely loves it! She was blessed with two sons and two wonderful daughter-in-laws. In 2019, she married Timothy Johnson and was blessed with six more children and 10 grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family and her 3 English Bulldogs - Bella, Bo, and Hank.

Val Amend, RD
Val received her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science from Ball State University. She has former experience in teaching courses at Ball State University and Indiana University Kokomo and as a nutrition instructor at The Chef’s Academy in Indianapolis. When Val is not focusing on patient nutrition and education, she stays busy with her dogs, loves to bake and enjoys outdoor activities like distance running, hiking and road biking.

Doris Kirkpatrick, LMHC
Doris received her Bachelor's degree from Taylor University and her Master's degree from Ball State University. She has taught courses at Ball State, Ivy Tech, and IU-Kokomo in the past. While at home she enjoys reading, cooking, drawing, gardening, and playing with her cat Dumpling.
